SYMPTOMS OF AIDS | ACQUIRED IMMUNODEFICIENCY SYNDROME


Let us check it out some of the symptoms of AIDS. This occurs when Human Immunodeficiency Virus(HIV) destroys the body's natural protection from illness.

As we know that blood is an important part of our body's immune system and the white blood cells  protect the body from any  disease. The white blood cells called as T cells plays a very important role. Some of the T cells are called helper cells that signal other cells to perform the job.

Now HIV attacks and destroys all the helper T cells, when enough helper T cells are destroyed the immune system is affected and cannot work properly and the patient has AIDS.



Some of the risk factors of AIDS are as follows:-

  • Sharing of drug needles or syringes
  • Perform sexual contact (which  includes oral, anal or vaginal) with someone whose HIV status is unknown or who is HIV positive without the protection of a male condom.
  • Syphilis or herpes or chlamydia infection or gonorrhea or bacterial vaginosis.
  • HIV-positive mother can affect new born baby during pregnancy, birth or breast feeding.
Some of the Symptoms of AIDS and HIV which are common are as follows:-
  • Many people have no symptoms of HIV while some have flu like symptom of a month or two after getting the virus these may contain chances of  fever and sometimes headache or tiredness and enlarge lymph nodes. These symptoms usually go away before they are identifies as HIV.
  • Now as the disease goes on progress the HIV infected patient may get Yeast Infection (oral or vagina) that do not go away or that occur often.
  • Severe herpes infection which occurs frequently.
  • Herpes Zoster is more likely to occur in infection patient.
  • Other pulmonary infection (pneumocystis carinii pneumonia) or so called atypical mycobacterial infection.
  •  Pelvic inflammation is a disease that does not respond to treatment can be found in women.
  • The virus may attack the nervous system (spinal cord, nerves, or brain) and produce a different types of symptoms such as tingling inside feet and trouble in walking or memory disturbances.
Major Symptoms HIV & AIDS are as follows:-
  • Large lymph node or "swollen glands" that may be enlarge for more than three month.
  • Frequent fever and sweats.
  • Short term memory loss.
  • Skin rashes .
  • Flaky skin .
  • Growth retards 
  • Frequent illness in children.
  • Seizures and lack of coordination.
  • Cough & shortness of breathe.
  • Difficult or painful Swallowing.
  • Nausea, stomach cramps, diarrhoea, and / or vomiting that do not go away.
  • Confusion & forgetfulness.
  • vision loss.
  • Unexplained weight loss.
  • Fatigue or unusual tiredness.
  • Severe headache.
  • In children conjunctivitis (pink eye),infection and tonsillitis.
Test for HIV detection:-
  • ELISA antibody blood test.
  • Western Blot antibody blood test.
  • Blood test for the presence of HIV.
