Reverse Osmosis

Reverse Osmosis (RO) is a technology for water purification using semipermeable membrane. Reverse Osmosis removes dissolved salts, ions, colloids, organics, bacteria and pyrogens from the water. Reverse osmosis is a technology used to remove large amount of contaminants from water by pushing water under pressure with the help of semi-permeable membrane.

Reverse osmosis occurs when the water moves against the concentration gradient from the lower concentration to higher concentration.

  1. Reverse osmosis often used in water filteration and also used in commercial.
  2. Also used to desalinate seawater.
  3. Also used to purify liquids in which water in undesirable impurity.
  4. Used in industrial application where demineralized and deionized water is needed.
