How Does Gas Chromatography Work?

Gas Chromatography, (also referred as GC) is an analytical method , Now let us see How Does it work, which is used in research as well as in chemical and in  pharmaceutical industries.
There are many applications of Gas chromatography. There are many chromatography methods in which mobile phase and stationary phase are present.

The mobile phase used over here is an inert gas which can be nitrogen, helium , argon etc, The stationary phase used over here is packed column in which  the packaging is coated with solid support which is an stationary phase or coated with liquid stationary phase.

Now the main factor or reason why the compounds are separated is that, the interaction of a compound with the stationary phase. The more the interaction of a compound with the stationary phase the more time it will take or it will take longer time and hence longer retention time.

Gas Chromatography separates molecule based on the volatility. The more volatile molecule will elute out quickly while less volatile molecule will separate out slowly.
